ABOUT THE ARTIST

JANET BIONDI

As an artist, I not only enjoy the creative process of developing a painting but also sharing my work with the world, in the hopes of uplifting others.  I believe artists are given this gift to bring beauty to others.  I hope that my images instill a sense of calm and peace in you.

I am mostly a self-taught artist but continued to learn from others later in my career. I had a passion for nature and drawing animals as a child growing up in rural Connecticut and Cape Cod.  I was encouraged by my early attempts and the passion continued to grow in me.  In college, I worked on illustration projects of birds of prey and was given a paid position as the anatomical illustrator for the anatomy department, drawing skeletons of various animals to be studied in class.  This included a 32 ft minke whale skeleton that I helped dissect with a team of students and professors.  My college experiences led to a 10 year passion of painting marine mammals and working with renown whale scientists on illustration and data collecting expeditions in the field.

My sense of adventure and travel brought me across the country to live in California and Hawaii in the 80's and 90's where I exhibited in galleries and was given one-woman shows in Tahoe, Carmel, Aspen and Kauai.  I was accepted into the bi-annual American Cetacean Society Whale art shows in Monterey, CA giving me the opportunity to meet and show with other artists in this select genre. In 1990, I illustrated the award-winning children's book "D is for Dolphin" as well as whale and sea shell guides for the Cape Cod National Seashore.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
